Experimental Realization of Novel Lattice Geometries of Trapped Atoms on a Magnetic Film Atomchip for Quantum Simulation via Rydberg Interactions

We present our first experimental observations of ultracold atoms in lattices of square and hexagonal geometry with a lattice constant of 10 µm, suitable for experiments in quantum information processing employing the interaction between atoms in highly-excited Rydberg energy levels as qubits.
