Terpenoids—CVIII: Isolation of an oxidodiol fromZanthoxylum rhetsa

1967
A crystalline oxido-diol, m.p. 171°, has been isolated fromZanthoxylum rhetsa, and found to be identical with one of the oxidation products of sabinene. The vicinal hydroxyls of the oxido-diol aretrans oriented, since cyclic derivatives such as carbonate, sulphite and acetonide can not be prepared from it. This is supported by its IR and NMR spectra and its reaction with lead tetraacetate.
