Defect sizing in thin components

Corner effect commonly appear during an ultrasonic examination of thin components. In case of a surface breaking crack, two different corner effect are generated. A prediction model based on focussed ultrasound properties is presented here to simulate echodynamic curves resulting from corner effect on the ligament side. This model allows to determine the pressure distribution across the focal spot using an axperimental corner effect.
