2020
The article discusses the challenges faced by the tourism industry and tourists in India and possible revival strategies. The strategies, already implemented and in consideration, are more global in nature and will help in the development of the tourism industry at this troubled time. The focus of the study is to understand the different experiences of the tourists stuck in India and to give insights into the different initiatives taken to help the tourism industry to the old glory. The authors have used a combination of literature review and a qualitative questionnaire to understand basic challenges in the industry and the ways to counter them. Our study of literature finds that leadership is important from the government and the industry heads. Equally important is financial help to hotels, travel agents, and other sectors. The primary data analysis shows that safe return to the respective countries and safety provided are essential factors for the tourists stuck in the country and what they need is a good treatment. If we can help the sectors under the industry and provide good treatment to the tourists, it will not be long before the industry in India can bounce back. The study is important as the same set of methods is also applicable to the other parts of the world in the area of tourism.
