Value of clinical application of determining glomerular filtration rate by the calculation method

2002
Objective:To assess the value of clinical application of determining glomerular filtration rate(GFR) by the calculation method. Methods:GFRs from 66 patients in hospital suffering from various diseases were accurately determined using clearance rate of 99m TcDTPA(TcGFR).Serum creatinine(Cr) and blood urea nitrogen(BUN) contents were measured, and simultaneously GFRs were calculated by WCP formula and Robert formula(WCPGFR and RobertGFR).Creatinine clearance rate was calculated by Cockcroft/Gault formula(CGCCr).The contrast study and correlation analysis were done for the data. Results:In patients with or without renal insufficiency,WCPGFR,RobertGFR,and CGCCr were positively correlated with TcGFR (all P 0 01) but negatively with BUN and serum Cr( P 0 05 or 0 01),respectively,with an exception between CGCCr and BUN in those without renal dysfunction.WCPGFR was more accurate than the others and could take the place of TcGFR clinically. Conclusions:WCPGFR,RobertGFR,and CGCCr might be helpful to reflect GFR to certain extent.Of them,WCPGFR was an accurate, simple, safe, and cheap method for determining GFR and it should be used and popularized clinically.
