PEMANFAATAN EKSTRAK DAUN JAMBU BIJI (Psidium guajava L.) SEBAGAI PEWARNA RAMBUT

Hair dye preparation is cosmetic which is used as for hair coloring to return the original hair colour and change the original hair colour into a new colour. Many ingredients from the plants has benefit as hair dye for e.g. chlorophyl, flavonoid, and tannin. Guava is one of the species from Myrtaceae families which has advantages of molecule such as a colour which a tannin. This research is to know whether extract guava leaf (Psidium guajava L.) which can formulated into preparation of hair dye with adding of colour substance, pyrogallol and copper (II) sulfate and to identity extract concentration of guava which will produce a good color. The sampling technique of guava was used sampling purposive from Kecamatan Medan Selayang. Guava leaf was extracted by percolation using aquadest as solvent. Hair dye preparation was formulated which consist from the guava leaf extract (Psidium guajava L.) with different concentration which is 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12%, each concentration extract consists of 1% pyrogallol, 1% copper (II) sulfate, and 0,5% xanthan gum. Aquadest was used as solvent. The hair which has been which was soaked for 1-4 hours and the colour changes was identitied as visual for every one hour. Stability of the colour was observed with stability test towards washing and sunlight, and was followed by iritation test on human skin. The result of research showed that hair colour produced was influenced by concentration of guava leaf (Psidium guajava L.) and soaked time which is a more the concentration of extract and the more time of soaking will produce dark colour which is from dark blonde to dark black. Conclusion from the research extract of guava leaf (Psidium guajava L.) can be formulated as hair dye. Concentration extract of guava leaf 12%, 1% pyrogallol, 1% copper (II) sulfat, and 0,5% xanthan gum will give the exact colour of dark black, stable toward washing, direct sunlight, and not causing reaction of irritation on skin.
