High-Energy Elastic Proton-Proton Scattering

1981
l) has given a descrption of the elastic pp scattering cross section at rs = 53 Ge V in terms of a G lauber 2 ) model of multiple scattering in which each proton has three internal constituents which are presumably quarks. The basic constitu· ent (i.e., quark-quark) scattering amplitude used is taken to be color independent and is parameterized to fit the observed cross sec tion. The purpose of this short note is to point out an error in Wakaizumi's calculation and to show that an undesirable diffraction structure associated with a second minimum not seen experimentally3) appears in his theo ry when neglected double- and triple-scatter ing terms are included. We are unable to remove this undesirable diffraction structure by a readjustment of model parameters. Wakaizumi's pop elastic scattering ampli tude
