Windtunnel validation experiments toinvestigate theflowoverarotating andheated diskpassed by aplanar airstream

Wind tunnel experiments ina lowspeedwindtunnel havebeenperformed bymeansofParticle ImageVelocimetry (PIV)andIRImaging inordertoprovide validation datafor numerical calculations oftheflowoverarotating andheated disc. Thefreestreamconditions inthetestsection ofthe1.3X1.3m2 windtunnel havebeendetermined. A testrighasbeendesigned wheretherotating discisheated upto300°Cbyaheating film. Thediscisembeddedinaflat plate toensure welldefined flow conditions. IRimaging technique hasbeenapplied todetermine thestate oftheflat plate boundary layer upstream oftherotating disc. Thestructure oftheflowfield parallel totherotating disc as wellastheboundary layer aredetermined bymeansofstandard (2D/2C) and stereoscopic (2D/3C)PIV measurements. The temperature distribution overtherotating dischasbeen measured withanIRimaging system.
