THE CONVERSION ELECTRON SPECTRUM OF Hf$sup 17$$sup 2$

1962
Hf/sup 172/ was produced by a spallation reaction in a tantalum target irradiated with fast protons. The Hf/sup 172/ fraction from the irradiated tantaium target was purified from its Lu/sup 172/ daughter, and subjected to measurements over a period of 6 months on a BETA spectrometer having a resolution of 2%. No conversion lines belonging to Hf/sup 172/ could be detected above 120 kev. The conversion electron spectrum shows 11 conversion lines corresponding to gamma transitions with energies of 23.6, 42, 44.5, 81.1, 112.7, and 125.5 kev. The relative intensities of the conversion lines are given. It was not possible to determine the muitipolarity of the gamma transitions conclusively, and to propose a decay scheme. (TTT)
