Biosynthesis, Regulation and Metabolic Engineering of Terpenoids in Plants

Terpenoids are widespread in nature that have various types, multiple structures and functions, most of which belong to secondary metabolites.In addition, terpenoids have been widely applied to drug development, agricultural purposes and industrial production.Plant terpenoids have been deeply investigated due to their new functions in recent years, including isolation, identification, pharmacological research, biosynthetic genes cloning, functional identification of enzymes and metabolic engineering.The biosynthesis and regulation of plant terpenoids along with metabolic engineering were discussed in this review.
