Electromagnetoacoustic SH surface waves: Formula for the velocity, existence and uniqueness

2021
Abstract The propagation of electromagnetoacoustic SH surface waves (called briefly EMA-SH waves) in non-dispersive piezoelectric media was investigated by Li (1996). Romeo (2004) has derived a formula for the wave velocity. However, it is not valid for all values of material parameters belonging to the existence domain of EMA-SH waves. In this paper, a new formula for the velocity of EMA-SH waves has been derived using the complex function method. This formula is valid for all values of material parameters in the existence domain of EMA-SH waves and more simple than corrected Romeo’s formula. Based on the obtained formula, it is shown that whenever an EMA-SH wave exists, it is unique. We have found the necessary and sufficient condition in an explicit and very simple form for an EMA-SH wave to exist. The correction of Romeo’s formula has been made that makes this formula valid in whole existence domain of EMA-SH waves.
