Non-suppression of quintet states in the tensor analyzing powers of the D+D fusion reactions at Ecm=14 keV☆
1992
Abstract Angular distributions of the three tensor analyzing powers A zz , A xz and A xx − A yy of the two fusion reactions D(d pol , n) 3 He and D(d pol , p) 3 H have been measured at E d =28±3 keV. A partial wave expansion of the data reveals strong participation of entrance-channel quintet S states for both D+D reactions while all D-state contributions vanish. This makes the practicability of the concept of a “nuetron-lean” fusion reactor based on the 3 He(d,p) 4 He fusion reaction with polarized deuterons very unlikely.
