Effects of Electrodialysis on the Major Salts in Tobacco Stem Extract

2014
In order to find out the effects of electrodialysis(ED) on the major salts in tobacco stem extract, the removal efficiencies of ED for four inorganic acid salts(chloride, nitrate, sulfate and phosphate), threemetallic salts(potassium salt, magnesium salt and calcium salt) and three organic acid salts(malate, oxalateand citrate) were investigated. The results showed that: the removal efficiencies of ED for different kind saltsdiffered, chloride, nitrate and potassium salts were removed more quickly; the order of removal rates for fourinorganic acid salts was chloride nitrate sulphate phosphate, for three metallic salts was potassiumsalt magnesium salt calcium salt, and for three organic acid salts was malate oxalate citrate. Byregulating both chloride content and nitrate content in tobacco stem extract, ED further regulated thecontents of chlorine and nitrate in reconstituted tobacco.
