Surface Topography Assessment of Polymer Base Film for Magnetic Tape Media in due Consideration of Asperity Summits

Established are the essential assessment parameters for characterizing surface topography of polymer base film in due consideration of the microscopic asperity summits. Data processing procedures to detect the effective summits and to evaluate their spatial distribution are described in detail. Principal component analysis is applied to those parameters in order to disclose the contribution of each parameter and to discriminate the sample surfaces under test.
