In this article are analyzed the challenges of Brazilian higher education, in regard to the curriculum and the current assessment policies, contextualized in the National Higher Education Evaluation System (SINAES). In this analysis, three aspects were prioritized and considered relevant: the place of rankings in the education policies on Higher Education of the Brazilian State, SINAES as public policy in order to identify its public character and infer about its potential to transform the curriculum of universi - ties and finally, a meta-evaluation of teachers in higher education, considering the cur - rent public assessment policy of higher education, through a process of self-evaluation articulated with instruments of the external evaluation of SINAES.
