Qualitative feasibility research to develop a novel approach for a design of a head support for radiosurgery or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)

2017
Abstract Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a medical technique used to treat tumors or cancer cells when other treatments are no longer applicable. To improve treatment and minimize the effect of radiation in nearby tissues, fixation needs to be used in the target area of the body. For head treatment, current fixation devices are archaic, expensive, ineffective and very invasive. The objective of the project has been to perform a feasibility study for a novel head support for SRS and to create a preliminary design for a prototype achieving same efficiency and accomplishing users’ needs, by following the ISO 13485.
