Investigation of Antennas for Car-to-Car Communications

2020
In this work the influence of a car shape on the radiation characteristics of a roof mounted antenna is examined. Simplified roof geometries are designed to study the radiation characteristics of dipoles and a monopole at different positions. It is shown that the electromagnetic waves are only slightly diffracted by the roof, and that there can be strong shading in the radiation direction. Simulations with a true-to-scale vehicle model were able to achieve comparable results and thus demonstrate the applicability of the proposed technique.
