Adoption of New Best Practices Eliminates CLABSIs in Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

Issue: In 2010 our 56 bed level III NICU experienced an increase in ventilator associated pneumonia rates in the,750 gram infant population. Our root cause analysis identified several challenges. First, we noted discrepancies between the radiologist report and the neonatologist interpretation of worsening serial x-rays. Were we radiographically identifying pneumonia correctly utilizing NHSN criteria? Secondly, wewanted to determine if our teamwas employing current evidenced based research for pneumonia prevention bundles in this unique population.
