Endoscopic Ultrasound in Pancreatic Cancer Staging
2021
After the diagnosis of a pancreatic cancer (PC), accurate PC staging is required for the selection of optimal therapy. Cross-sectional imaging techniques including CT, MRI, and PET-CT are commonly used for PC staging. However, EUS is a useful adjunct for accurate TN staging and evaluation of vascular invasion in PC in addition to allowing diagnostic tissue samples to be obtained (by EUS-FNA). Furthermore, EUS is a reliable method for selection of patients with borderline resectable PC due to its high sensitivity and specificity for staging T3–T4 tumors.
