The research in ratio on decreased function of lower limbs caused by lumbar spinal stenosis

2005
Objective To quantitatively determine muscle strength of lower limbs and analyse the effect of lumbar spinal stenosis on lower limb function in ratio. Methods The muscle strength of uninjured and injured lower limbs in 25 cases with lumbar spinal stenosis was tested in constant amplitude by CYBEX 770P and the results of two sides were taken to contrast analysis. Results The peak torque, peak torque/body weight, average power, average power/body weight, the best single total work, total work/body weight, torque at 30° and torque at 30° /body weight of flexor muscle of injured side at a higher test speed were obviously decreased and had significant difference from those of uninjured side (P0.05). There was no significant difference between the ratio of flexor peak torque/extensor peak torque of injured side and that of uninjured side. ConclusionThe flexor and extensor muscle strength of injured lower limbs with lumbar spinal stenosis was descending at different levels. The flexor muscle strength descended significantly in quick contraction. It may be related to the disused low limbs caused by lumbar spinal stenosis, which has more effect on flexor.
