A Comparative Analysis Between Indoor and Outdoor Thermal Comfort Parameters of Railway Pantry Car

2021
Indian railway pantry car kitchen plays a vital contribution to the catering system, which provides the meal to every onboard passenger. It is an integral part of every “long and short distance train.” The objective of this study was to compare the indoor and outdoor thermal comfort parameters of the Indian railway pantry car kitchen. Data were collected on 14 railway pantry car coaches for field measurements during summer and winter season. Descriptive analysis and Mann–Whitney test were performed in this study. A descriptive analysis result of this study revealed that the measured indoor thermal comfort parameters found more as compare to outdoor conditions except for air velocity cases. The statistical analysis result shows that there is a significant difference between air temperature (p 0.05) in both conditions. However, in the case of air velocity (p > 0.05), outdoor condition exceeds than indoor condition. Further, the design intervention of workplace would be suggested to improve the thermal comfort of the chef.
