Apparatus for measuring side shape of slab and control method thereof

An apparatus for measuring a side shape of a slab and a control method for the same are disclosed. The apparatus for measuring a side shape of a slab according to the present invention comprises: a rotation sensing unit measuring rotating speed of a drive roller of a roller table for transferring a slab; a location sensing unit sensing an entry state of the slab transferred through the roller table; a 2D laser scanner scanning a side surface of the slab above a side surface of the roller table; a control unit operating the location of the slab, based on the rotating speed input from the rotation sensing unit, when the entry state of the slab is sensed by the location sensing unit, operating the 2D laser scanner when the slab reaches a measurement point, receiving and quantifying a plurality of measurement values obtained by repeatedly scanning the slab with time difference, and performing triaxial rotating conversion thereof to calculate information on the side shape of the slab; and a data output unit outputting the information on the side shape of the slab produced by the control unit.
