Variation in the Tissue Culture Progeny of the Chimeral Potato (Solanum Tuberosum L.) Variety Golden Wonder
1986
‘Golden Wonder’ is a russet tuber, periclinal chimeral sport of ‘Langworthy’, a variety with pale non-russet tuber skin. Approximately 94% of 1 000 adventitious regenerants from complex expiants and single cell derived calli of ‘Golden Wonder’ had non-russet tuber skins. The remainder were russets (c. 1%) or chimeras (splashed), average c. 5%. Observation of haulm morphology and tuber skin character of regenerants, vegetatively propagated from tubers for two generations, revealed chimeral breakdown of the splashed progeny and indications of further cryptic chimeras.
