Pharmacological behaviour management

2018
The majority of pediatric dental patients can be treated in the conventional dental environment by establishing good rapport with the patient and parent and relying on sound behavior management techniques. Fears are found throughout childhood and adolescence. Fear is often considered to be an essential and inevitable emotion, augmenting the fight or flight response in times of danger, thus providing children with means of adapting to stresses of life. It is therefore normal for children to be scared of a situation particularly the ones which have harmed them before. It is not very different from general fear. It is closely related to the factors like fear of unknown, fear of pain etc. Fearful children not only indirectly harm themselves, but also pose a problem for the practitioners as their behavior in the dental office is adversely affected by their fear.
