Reliability and durability of gas turbines. Zuverlaessigkeit und Lebensdauer von Gasturbinen

1999
Gas turbines have developed into the presently dominating power plant technology within a rather short period of approximately fifty years beginning with energetic plants and jet engines in the Forties of this century. The global impact of gas turbine development is mainly caused by - high conversion rates of flow machines, the concentration on the use of the special combustibles natural gas, heating oil (extra light) and kerosene, by the development of firm materials and consequently the combustion at high temperatures and finally by achieving a high reliability. Knowing the local gas temperatures and the related component temperatures and component strains the Department of Power Plant Technology of the Technical University of Dresden together with the Material Test Institute of the University of Stuttgart developed a method to determine durability in practice related to creep strain and thermally alternating strain for the hot gas conducting gas turbine components and which has proved its reliability with original gas turbine components.
