Electromagnetic compatibility of pulse rectifier with pulse-width modulation

2018
This paper deals with Pulse-width Modulation (PWM) of pulse rectifier, which is intended for the hybrid locomotive with motors of the nominal parameters of 366 kW power, 40 Hz frequency, 400 A current, 660 V voltage and power factor of 0.844. The rectifier consists of the three-phase bridge configuration with IGBT and reverse diodes for 1700 V voltage. This design is very advantageous considering properties such as dynamics and smart control. However, the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electromagnetic Interferences (EMI) could create big problems. To analyze the basic properties of EMC, especially EMI, several results of numerical simulations of PWM along with rough calculations are given. Testing and mitigations for EMC are considered in the ends.
