Part 1 briefly discusses the basics of land the most important factor of production in an agrarian economy (the predominant characteristic of most developing countries) and proceeds to a detailed review of the theoretical approaches to the process of land titling. Part 2 treats of land titling in practice in a differentiated sample of developing countries. It goes on to identify issues arising from land titling in developing countries in general and reaches conclusions as to the efficacy of the process.
