Effect of soil nitrogen on crambe seeded directly over different cover crops

2014
Nitrogen is one of the great impact elements on crop production, however, very little is known about its effect on crambe nutrition when we talk about it as a predecessor of soy cultivation in a direct seeding system. This paper has as its objective to evaluate the effect of nitrogen usage, or not, in crambe seeding, which is cultivated after different kinds of crops. The experiment was carried out in Santa Helena, Parana state, in an eutroferric red latosol in low altitude. The experimental design was made from random blocks in a split plot system with four repetitions. The plots were made by Pennisetum glaucum, Sorghum sudanense, Sorghum bicolor and Crotalaria juncea and the sub-plots by the usage of nitrogen as covering (0 and 70 kg ha -1 ). We evaluated the following production components: Dry matter, SPAD index (chlorophyll) and N total flourishing level (g kg -1 ). The covering nitrogen fertilisation influenced positively the crambe production components. It did not interfere on the SPAD index neither on the N level from the crambe leaves, which was cultivated after the Crotalaria juncea.
