Pressure‐forced high‐temperature superconductor‐metal composites

2008
The filling of intergranular microcracks and voids in bulk high‐temperature superconductors with liquid metal under high pressure is expected to improve critical currents. Liquid In was pressure‐forced into bulk textured Y‐Ba‐Cu‐O and Bi‐Sr‐Ca‐Cu‐O samples at pressures of order of 50 kbar. Complete filling of microcracks with In was found. Composites containing resolified Ag, prepared at the same pressure, were also studied.
