Cellular response to biocomposites

2017
Cellular response is critical for a biocompatibility evaluation of biocomposites both on their road to the medical market and in a research performed in order to develop the new ones. On the other hand biocomposites may direct cell fate becoming a useful tool in cell-based therapies. Besides, cells may be engaged in producing biocomposites components. Such possibilities develop a new perspective on the cell-biocomposites interaction. Both composite materials which contain at least one phase of a biological origin and composites developed for biological applications are considered biocomposites, which result in an enormous diversity of the available systems. In a consequence, the lack of the head-to-head data has been recognised the main limitation in our knowledge on the cellular response to biocomposites. At the same time, understanding of the cell-biocomposites interaction is sorely required, because of the importance of biocomposites on a road map for materials in health.
