Etude de la partie 'dictionnaire' dans l'analyse componentielle

1980
A brief overview and various problems in componential analysis shall be discussed. Minimal units of meaning must be cross-applicable to the lexicon since the number of units would otherwise increase indefinitely with its size and there would be nothing systematic linking its subsets. However in practice such cross-application may result in fictitious organization. There is doubt also as to whether or not the units themselves should 'have meaning'. If so, one has the circularity of dictionaries and if not, the units are impossible to grasp and hence evaluate. The light shed on these and other problems should help create the environment for future constructive work in semantic theory.
