NIST hosts “polarized 3He in neutron scattering”

1999
Abstract An informal workshop entitled “Polarized 3He in Neutron Scattering” (PHINS). organized by Tom Gentile, Mike Snow and colleagues, was held in late January 1999 at the National Institute of Standards and Technology Center for Neutron Research (the NCNR) i n Gaithersburg, Maryland. For many years it has been known to the neutron scattering community that polarized 3He holds promise for polarizing and analyzing neutrons. Significant advances i n the production and handling of polarized 3He gas, motivated by polarized 3He targets for nuclear and high energy physics, has now made this possibility a reality.
