Dimensional variation and form deviation caused by forming and sintering as well as the achievable surface quality during the manufacturing of ceramics necessitate a further treatment of ceramic functional surfaces. Caused by the high hardness of ceramics the machining with diamond grains is the basical manufacturing method. This finishing procedure is divided into two steps. The grinding process generates the macro geometry, while the following polishing step produces the required micro topography. In the following the grinding process will be focused with special regard to the influence of different applied coolants on the generated surface quality.
