Active matrix liquid crystal display

1997
Good display characteristics can be obtained in a wide viewing angle range without gradation inversion active liquid crystal display. Such liquid crystal layer 4 is formed such that its thickness according to the transmission wavelength of the colored layer 6, 7 and 8 is different, no matter where the viewing direction in order to obtain any colored not a good display. The active matrix substrate A comprises a plurality of opposing electrodes; a plurality of pixel electrodes; an alignment film and a thin film transistor. The color filter substrate comprises the alignment film C and an optical compensation layer. Two substrates being arranged so that the alignment films face each other. Having negative uniaxial refractive index anisotropy of the optical compensation layer can eliminate delays generated in the liquid crystal layer 4, in order to suppress the black floating portion displaying white.
