Node Collaborative Sensing-based Redundant Path Construction for Multi-area Coverage in MWSNs

2021
Mobile wireless sensor networks (MWSNs) have been widely used in environmental safety monitoring and other applications due to their many characteristics, especially in hazardous and harsh workplaces. This paper studies how to construct a covered redundant path between the Original Monitoring Area (OMA) and the Extended Area (EA) to provide continuous coverage and communication. To avoid the shortage of multi-area coverage control studies in MWSNs, we adopt a new Node Cooperative Sensing (NCS) model, and define the NCS-based Multi-area Coverage Redundant Path Construction (NCS-MCRPC) problem, intending to minimize the communication interruption of the path and ensure the monitoring of hazardous substances. To solve the NCS-MCRPC problem, we propose a Rapid Sensor Redeployment-based Redundant Path Construction (RSR-RPC) strategy. RSR-RPC includes the initialization phase, redeployment phase, working phase, and repair phase. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism, we conducted a series of experiments. The simulation results show that RSR-RPC outperforms the peer-to-peer algorithms in terms of path coverage performance and interruption probability.
