CUE: Ontology-Based Knowledge Acquisition

1994
This paper presents Cue, a knowledge engineering workbench that supports the development of knowledge based systems according to the GAMES methodology, which is also briefly described. Cue contains tools that support the three steps involved in model based knowledge acquisition: model construction, model instantiation and model refinement. Two of the tools that are part of the workbench are described in detail. The first of these, Quote, is an editor for the definitions of ontologies. The second, Quake, exploits the ontologies defined with Quote to elicit domain knowledge in a focused way. In the context of Quake an analysis of possible knowledge elicitation strategies is presented. Finally, the strengths and weaknesses of Cue are discussed and the system is compared with other knowledge acquisition environments.
