Profile functions for coulomb excitation at high energies

1975
Abstract The profile functions for C1, E1, M1 and E2 excitation of hadrons or nuclei in collisions with other nuclei are calculated for high, but not necessarily relativistic, energies. Cross sections for C1, E1 and M1 excitation are calculated in a model using total absorption at impact parameters b R , and a generalized Weizsacker-Williams formula is established. Effects of the target form factor are included. At low energies, the C1 + E1 cross section goes through a minimum.
