Cloused pediatric head injury

One hundred children with a closed head injury were studied. The majority were in the preschool age group. Boys predominated. Accidental fall from a height was the commonest cause. The significant clinical features included an alteration in consciousness, seizures, ocular changes, vomiting, local trauma and fever. Of 52 children X-rayed, 9 showed a linear fracture in the vault, and one each a depressed and a basal fracture. There were two deaths. Of 22 children seen at followup, 4 had headache, one seizures and one was disoriented.
