Crisis Resource Management and Interdisciplinary Team Training

This chapter describes the concept of crew resource management and development of crisis resource management within the healthcare arena to present a framework for interprofessional team training. Key principles and studies within crew/crisis resource management (CRM) are evaluated and integrated to help the reader develop the tools necessary to design appropriate and effective simulations relevant to all involved team members. Emphasis is placed on how the key principles within CRM can go wrong in a healthcare environment and what can be learned from these failures, with tools and techniques for improved skill building and enhanced awareness of the role of CRM and interprofessional team training on patient care and improved outcomes.
