Health surveillance actions in Brazil

Despite the expansion of the field of action, health surveillance still retains its powers and ways of acting settled in inspection, licensing of establishments, trial irregularities and impose penalties. Objective: To describe the procedures related to the health surveillance which are part of the Ambulatory Care Information System (SIA) of Brazilian Health System (SUS) in 2012. Methodology: From Tabnet /DATASUS been accessed information of SIA by place of service and type of organization related to health surveillance in 2012. Thus, it was possible to work the database and the selection of the variables restricted to procedures performed by health surveillance. Data were exported to the free R ® computer program (version 3.0.1) for descriptive analysis. Results: Forty three procedures performed by the Health Surveillance, four (% 9.30) were related to educational activities, nineteen (44.18%) shares of regulation and licensing sanitary, three (6.98%) outbreak investigation and two (4.65%) the administrative process sanitary. Conclusion: The SIA /SUS is a technological tool for analysis of procedures performed by health surveillance. There was predominance of regulatory procedures, but the health education activities are present in the working process of health surveillance service.
