Stimulated Brillouin Scattering suppressed EDFA in a long-haul optical fiber link system

2015
In this paper, a novel Receiver-Transmitter Erbium doped fiber amplifier (RT-EDFA) is proposed and developed, which can realize wavelength conversion and suppress Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) signals induced by the high power optical signal transmitted along a long-haul optical fiber link. We demonstrate experimentally the SBS suppression function of the RT-EDFA used in 10Gbit/s and 2.5Gbit/s long distance transmission system. The experimental results show the RT-EDFA can improve the launched power to 17dBm and 19.5dBm at 10Gbit/s and 2.5Gbit/s, respectively, in a long span transmission system, and also can improve the booster amplifier to 19.5dBm with less than 0.5dB power penalty compared with back to back transmission.
