Experimental determination of the standard formation functions of the Al8FeMnSi2 intermetallic phase

1996
The segregation process of the Al 8 FeMnSi 2 intermetallic phase has been studied in several alloys of the Al-Si-Fe-Mn system, in the ranks of temperature between 878° and 1073°K. Once the segregation process is completed, an equilibrium state is reached in which the intermetallic phase has sedimented to the bottom of the crucibles employed. A thermodynamic study of the equilibrium state in the alloys investigated was performed, using the experimental data obtained from the equilibrium state. The thermodynamic study allowed to obtain the values of the standard formation functions of the intermetallic phase, where the values reported were obtained assuming an ideal behaviour of the solutions.
