Preparation of Calcium Sulfate Whisker from Salt Deposit

2015
The issue about comprehensive utilization of the residue salt deposit in chlor-alkali plants have long been concerned, although there are many metal ions in the salt deposit and it is possible to recover the metal magnesium and light magnesium carbonate, barium sulfate, etc., but the process is complicated and has a high production cost. Though atomic absorption spectrophotometer and ion chromatography measure Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ , Na + and other metal ions and SO4 2- , NO 3- , Cl - anionic content in the salt deposit respectively. By the reaction of salt deposit and vitriol synthesizes ultra-fine calcium sulfate whisker. By electron microscopy analysis the diameter of ultra-fine calcium sulfate whisker as means it prepares the calcium sulfate whisker of a variation of 0.2~4.0μm in diameter and 35~150μm in length under the optimum conditions. The X-ray diffraction analysis shows that calcium sulfate product phase content is 95.0%.
