Contribution of animal experimental data for the risk assessment of exposure to radon decay products

2005
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the contribution of animal experimental data for the risk assessment of exposure to random decay products. This chapter summarizes data on lung cancer risk from radon experimental studies performed by the group at CEA-COGEMA with emphasis on the most recent findings and analyses on the influence of dose rate. The experimental data describes that at cumulative exposures comparable to those that may occur in underground mines. This chapter also presents that in homes, and at PAEC one order of magnitude larger than those currently observed in mines and about two orders of magnitude larger than those in dwellings, the existence of a practical threshold for lung cancer induction, although statistical and theoretical modeling of the risk data may suggest different interpretations.
