ECfunded R&D Project: LASERACT LASERMULTITASKNON DESTRUCTIVETECHNOLOGY INCONSERVATIONDIAGNOSTICPROCEDURES ENVK4-CT-2002-00096 LASERACT

2005
Various laser interferometric techniques successfully applied inmedical andindustrial diagnostic sectors notyetfully developed andadjusted inthefield ofconservation ofCultural Heritage arebeing considered. The drawback isthateachtechnique implies distinct operation characteristics solving specific problems that cannot correspond tothecomplexity ofdiagnostic problems involved inthefield ofCultural Heritage. Assuchthefragmented applicability obstructs their transfer tothenew demanding field ofapplication. Therefore theproject objective istointegrate complementary advantages oftechniques based on thesame fundamental physical principles inone system-device capable toprovide thedesirable flexibility offunction and standardised operation providing auser-friendly on-field transportable system asauniversal structural diagnostic tool forCultural Heritage applications. Structural diagnostics inartconservation lacks novel alternative tools anditisassumed thatthis essential advance will allow andpromotethewideuseoflaser diagnostic techniques inartconservation discipline enhancing bothfields. Theproject involving nine partners from sevenEuropean countries among which areSMEsandendusers is inits third andfinal yearandspecific results will beprovided andshown.
