Trajections: a Linguistics-based Method for the Development of the Spanish Version of SNOMED

2000
Contemporary linguistic theories agree in recognizing language as being "pervasively layered", in a way that its forms and functions relate to one another through a variety of systematically interdependent complexes. Throughout the process of translation of SNOMED into he Spanish Language, the linguistically-based method of trajections proved a useful tool to prevent radical departures from the original text, while allowing for a natural translation delivery. In order to produce a communicative' style of translation, as opposed to the semantic style, many decisions and compromises must be made. Trajections2 may be defined as translational patterns through which language pairing may be resolved when a literal translation from a source language renders unnatural phrases in the target language.
