Comparison of Efficacies of Insecticide-impregnated Papers between WHO Papers and in House Prepared Papers

2011
A study on the comparison of efficacies of insecticide-impregnated papers between WHO papersand those prepared in the laboratory. The experiments were divided into two steps. The firstone was to study the efficiency and shelf life of impregnated papers prepared in the laboratory, comparing with WHO impregnated papers. Deltamethrin 0.05%, permethrin 0.75%, fenitrothion1% and malathion 5% impregnated papers from two sources were used in standard WHO susceptibilitytest against the laboratory strain of Aedes aegypti obtained from Entomological Support section,National Institute of Health. The tests showed that both impregnated paper sources had comparableefficiency and shelf life as recommended by WHO that impregnated papers should be reusednot more than five times within one year. The second step was to study the efficiency of bothimpregnated paper sources with field-caught Aedes aegypti strains from Khon Kaen, Udon Thani,Chaiyaphum and Sing Buri provinces. Test results of the two impregnated paper sources werefound quite similar except deltamethrin impregnated papers tested with Udon Thani and Chaiyaphumstrains and malathion impregnated papers tested with Udon Thani and Sing Buri strains. Both haveshown slightly different results, however it was still within the acceptable range.Key words: Aedes aegypti, impregnated papers, susceptibility test
