Subperiosteal Bone Resorption in Hyperparathyroidism

1955
It is known that subperiosteal bone resorption may occur in hyperparathyroidism and the condition is described and illustrated in the literature. However, cases are sufficiently rare for the following to be of interest. The patient, a woman aged 58 years, attended hospital in May 1954, complaining of generalised weakness of such degree that she could hardly stand, and of widespread aches and pains; both symptoms dated back about a year. More recently she had experienced attacks of nausea and vomiting. Apart from severe generalised muscular weakness no abnormality was found on physical examination.
