Factor Analysis of Methane Production Potential From Crop and Livestock Biomass

2014
Due to the current effort put reducing the amount of CO₂ to cope with the climate changes, interests about biomass resource are increasing. Biomass resource are the energy witch can continuously be circulate and possess carbon neutral properties as they do not increase the amount of CO₂. In terms of biomass conversion technology such as thermochemical conversion (Hydrothermal experiment, Carbonization, Hydrothermal carbonization etc.), and biological conversion (Biogas, Bio-ethanol) are being applied, but in case of biomass wastes occurring in the agricultural field, biogas technology is being evaluated as the most commercialized technology. Therefore, this study researched biomass waste from 17 types of agricultural waste biomass and analyzed the anaerobic digestion characteristics according to each biomass characteristic. Additionally, through the analysis of biochemical methane potential of various agricultural analyzed. In order to do so, foreign biochemical methane potential standard method (Germany VDI4630) were examined and standard method needed for evaluation of anaerobic biodegradability efficiency of vegetable biomass. As a result, theoretical biochemical methane potential of agricultural waste biomass was displayed as 0.266 ∼0.488 Nm³kg -1 -VSadded. Ultimate biochemical methane potential of agricultural waste biomass displayed as 0.176∼0.417 Nm³kg -1 -VSadded. Anaerobic biodegradability (Bu/Bth) determined by VS content were 36.0%∼95.9% and anaerobic biodegradability (VDI4630) determined by VS content were 30.8%∼91.1% for the agricultural waste biomass.
