The comparative immunogenetic studies of blood groups in primates, including man, which are the fruits of 15 years of collaboration between the French groups at College de France, Paris, and the American group at the Laboratory for Experimental Medicine and Surgery in Primates (LEMSIP) of the New York University School of Medicine, have allowed a better understanding of certain important aspects of the evolutionary mechanisms.
